The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, starting from the first lockdowns in March 2020, have caused ongoing difficulties in the freight industry. With the needs of our customers in mind, Clear Lane Freight has adapted and innovated every step of the way, increasing our network of agents, using faster modes of transportation, and improving logistics. We’re now seeking to match this investment in strengthening the aims of our core business model with significant improvements to our communication with our clients, by bringing additional highly qualified personnel into our customer service team.

Remaining True to Our Vision

Clear Lane Freight’s mission is to provide cost-effective, reliable LTL shipping options for customers dealing with non-time-sensitive goods. During the last fifteen months, the freight industry has been hit with a succession of shocks to the normal way of doing business, from abrupt slowdowns due to reduced supply from overseas and low staffing at major ports to sudden influxes of materials as intermodal freight reopened. These circumstances added a greater deal of unpredictability to the task of shipping LTL, and for many carriers, drove up costs. Clear Lane has been able, through existing contracts with intermodal providers, to keep costs down relative to other companies, and we’ve prioritized improvements to logistics and capacity to help keep our customers’ goods moving. What has become apparent in this time is that uncertainty increases the need for our customers to not only have accurate, up-to-date information on their shipments but also timely access to knowledgeable customer service agents who can answer their questions, whether those inquiries are about a specific shipment or about more general account issues. Providing accurate, prompt information allows our customers to plan effectively and make the right decisions for their business. This is why we’re expanding our customer service team with experienced representatives, to ensure that our clients can get the answers and help they need when they need them. While our customers will still have our convenient range of technological tools at their disposal for simple self-service inquiries, our additional customer service staffing will supplement these options when more information is needed. Our goal is to make sure our customers aren’t just satisfied with our prices and flexibility, but that they feel confident and happy with our service throughout the process of moving their goods.

Planning into the Future

Finding solutions for our customers during the last fifteen months has encouraged Clear Lane Freight to seek out innovations while we’ve continued to provide economical solutions for non-time-sensitive LTL freight in a capacity-constrained transportation market. These innovations, including our affiliation with Estes Express and reorganizing logistics at our major transportation hubs such as in Chicago, position us to provide improved service and reduced transit times as remaining COVID restrictions are gradually eliminated and the U.S. economy continues to grow. The extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic illuminated areas in need of improvement in our operations. However, we know that industry leaders never stop innovating—we look forward to continuing to find new ways to enhance our service for our customers. We expect that the freight industry will continue to undergo changes in the near future. For example, as companies re-evaluate their reliance on overseas manufacturing, just-in-time stocking, and other features that have characterized supply logistics, traditional patterns of shipping and manufacturing may shift.
